Treatment

The ophthalmologists have the experience, skill and capability to treat the vast majority of eye conditions locally. The ophthalmologists, Dr Augustino Clark, Dr Roy van Eijden, and Dr James Dalgliesh are all comprehensive ophthalmologists, with cataract surgery being the most common procedure they perform.

In addition, Gus, Roy and James each have their own sub-specialist skills. Gus is a fellowship trained Vitreoretinal Surgeon, Roy has specialist training in Glaucoma, Oculoplastics, Neuro Ophthalmology and Paediatrics and James is a fellowship trained Oculoplastic Surgeon. So for example, if a patient requires retinal surgery, Gus will assess and treat them. If a child requires treatment, they will be managed by Roy. Lid surgery is most likely treated by James.

Pterygium surgery

Pterygium is an abnormal conjunctival growth across the cornea of the eye. We see this a lot in the Northern Rivers due to our high levels of UV and outdoor lifestyle. It is common in surfers, farmers, fishermen and anyone spending long periods outdoors or on the beach. If the growth is irritating, constantly red, or begins to grow across the visual axis, then removal with a graft is required.
